Oil Palm Plywood
Oil Palm is scientifically known as Elaeis guineensis.
The oil palm tree in Malaysia is erect and can reach up to a height of 30 ft and 12 inches or more in diameter. Where in Malaysia cultivation is largely based on the estate management model and the total planted area is approx. 3.20 million ha.
The world export market for palm oil is currently dominated by Malaysia and with it, about 30 million tons of biomass such as those coming from the oil palm trunks, fronds and empty fruit bunches are generated by the oil palm industry every year.
Very recently, it has been successfully implemented a technological breakthrough process that converts oil palm trunks into oil palm veneer for use in the construction of plywood. This success reduces timber log usage and cause to enhance forest carbon sinks; is in line with the global greenhouse gas emission reduction strategy and with it, the reduction in CO 2 and CH 4 greenhouse gases from the NOW reducible oil palm biomass.
