CHECKING THE `SUPPLY CHAIN OF CUSTODY`:
To accomplish the goals of the Programme, it must be ascertained that all timber and wood products being marketed as Certified Source Timber are:
· Originating from a legal timber concession being well managed with long term sustainable forestry practices.
· Legally logged with all dues and royalties being paid.
· Properly identified species and log grade.
To achieve these goals Certified Source Timber is currently processed through the following supply chain:
· Timber originates from concessions is identified as being managed in a sustainable manner. To verify sustainability claims, third party consultants are then brought in as required.
· The concessionaire identifies and harvests the trees as per their management plan. The selective logging is then to comply with the minimum standards of ITTO`s guidelines. ( ITTO is an organisation who actually run the various forest sustainability programs, for more on them here please see `companies in detail section` )
· The round logs are sawn, timber is then dried/seasoned, finish milled to S4S, and exported direct to our customers via our country sales representatives.
The programme is currently assessing other well managed responsible legal timber sources within the region of South-East Asia .
CST PROGRAMME SUMMARY:
· The Customer selects the desired species and source
· An identified legal timber concession based on availability is appraised
· An appointed regional representative arranges the delivery of the material to the final destination and issues the Schutter certificate to the customer.
